Background of the Study
During his tenure as president, Goodluck Jonathan made notable strides in advancing gender equality through various policies and initiatives. The administration recognized the need for women’s inclusion in governance, economic participation, and social development. Some of the key policies included the establishment of the Ministry of Women Affairs, the promotion of women’s rights through legislative frameworks, and initiatives aimed at empowering women in the areas of education, healthcare, and entrepreneurship.
Gombe North, a predominantly rural area in Gombe State, is a key region where gender disparities have historically hindered the empowerment of women. The region has faced challenges such as low female literacy rates, limited economic opportunities for women, and a lack of access to basic healthcare services.
